Folklorama 2019 Winnipeg is the home to a unique and exciting multicultural festival, Folklorama. The Selo Ukrainian Dancers had the opportunity to perform for packed crowds at Folklorama’s Ukraine-Kyiv Pavilion on Monday, August 12, 2019! The Selo Ukrainian Dancers were thrilled to perform at the Ottawa Capital Ukrainian Festival, July 19-21 2019.  Selo captivated the audience with a variety of regional dances, colourful costumes, and never ending energy.  The dancers kicked up their heels late into the night enjoying themselves at the lively zabava's and entertaining kolomeyka's! Following the performance in Ottawa the dancers took their talents to perform in Quebec!  Selo performed a very special concert at Verkhovyna Ukrainian Park Camp (just north of Montreal).  The campers and cottagers were very appreciative and encouraged the dancers with their thunderous applause. Congratulations to the dancers on a spectacular performance of their year-end production 'From Heart to Hand - Handcrafting a Culture' (on Sunday, May 26)!  Their energy, precision, and beaming smiles certainly brought a lot of joy to all that were in attendance. The dancers told the wonderful story of how handcrafting in Ukraine is not only a livelihood, but as well a passion with significant meaning that contributes to the rich Ukrainian folklore. Whether it is wood carving, embroidery, ceramics, folk instruments or weaving, the skills are passed down from generation to generation inspiring the celebration of Ukrainian culture. See the Selo Ukrainian Dancers perform, alongside other Ukrainian dance groups from Manitoba, in a special benefit concert!  'Open Your Hearts to the Children of Bukovets' will be performed on 7:00PM, Saturday, June 8 at St. Mary's Academy Theatre, 550 Wellington Crescent.  All proceeds are for the children at Bukovets School in the Carpathian Mountains of Ukraine.  Tickets available at:  www.eventbrite.ca

Our hearts were filled with passion and pride this past weekend as we took to the stage at the PFE Dance Showcase in Saskatoon (April 11-14, 2019). The Selo dancers enthusiastically performed 13 dances at an amazing Ukrainian dance festival hosted by the Pavlychenko Folklorique Ensemble (PFE). All of the dancers, from the youngest, to the Ensemble group, truly danced with energy, emotion, eagerness and spirit. The dancers were acknowledged for their efforts with some very high marks from the adjudicators, and were very honoured to be selected to perform 2 dances in the Showcase Performance on Saturday evening. The Selo Ukrainian Dancers hosted a Pysanka Workshop for the dancers and their families. Instructors guided the participants in transforming a plain white egg into a colourful work of art! What a great way to learn more about our rich Ukrainian culture … and just in time for Easter!

The Selo Ukrainian Dancers hosted a fun-filled Zabava on Saturday, February 23. The event was fun for the whole family that included lively, toe-tapping, music provided by the band 'By Request'! There was also be a delicious hot lunch served, and some fabulous prizes won. The Selo Ukrainian Dancers performed a couple dances and debuted a brand new Hopak! The evening even featured an incredible kolomeyka where all the dancers had a chance to show off their favourite Ukrainian dance steps!
